I Can’t Feel My Legs 2 (2024) presents an aerial view of figures suspended in a sea of clouds as autumnal leaves fall across the painting’s surface. Upon closer inspection, the painting dissolves to reveal bursts of color applied over handspun sanyan. In various layers, Omuku achieves a range of tones in this work, demonstrating a profound sensitivity to color in her technique. The work revisits a skyscape Omuku painted while studying at the Slade School of Art in London. This time, she has inserted figures into the scene, which harmoniously blend into the sky and suggest a connection between people and landscape. In the artist’s own words, the painting “speaks to the harmony of place and oneness between people and landscapes. It depicts rest in nature and the harmony with the space they inhabit.”
