Nneoma in Brooklyn (2024) presents a seated figure on a bench surrounded by lush foliage abstractedly rendered in pink, green, orange and yellow. The scene reimagines a moment of tranquility, where Omuku recognized the motif of figures resting in nature would be the foundation of Wild Things and Perennials, her first New York solo exhibition. After a visit to the Brooklyn Museum in New York, Omuku studied the various plants at the nearby Brooklyn Botanic Garden, translating them into abstract strokes and bursts of color. Blending the world around her with expressions of her interior mind, the work reflects the underlying emotions Omuku felt while finding solace in nature.
